Be Downtown Campaign

Our Tacoma LINK is all dressed up for the holidays (though the action photo above doesn't do it justice).  In addition to the LINK makeover, there is a larger campaign to encourage customers to "Eat. Shop. Do. Skate." downtown.  This is part of Sound Transit's mitigation work associated with the temporary closure of Pacific Avenue as the Sounder commuter rail looks to expand.

(more below...)

The Be Downtown Campaign has its very own website with links to some of the activities happening downtown this holiday season.  For more shopping options, please visit the Downtown Merchants Group website.  In addition, the Tacoma+ maps now have an added bonus: Bring in a receipt from any business in the Tacoma+ map and receive a free skate rental at the Franciscan Polar Plaza.  For more on the Tacoma+ map, please see contributor Hemisphere Design, a recent TNT article, or stop by many local shops or the Chamber of Commerce to pick up a copy.

While it's great to see Sound Transit contributing to increased vibrancy and encouraging the local economy, everyone will breath a collective sigh of relief when the road contstruction work at the south end of downtown is complete.  The closure of Pacific Avenue is expected to continue until the middle of 2012 with project completion in late 2012.  Sound Transit's project page is here for more details.
